Brian W. Peavey, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

OFFERED TO A GRADUATING PENTUCKET REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR IN MEMORY OF MVCB FOUNDING MEMBER BRIAN W. PEAVEY, SR.

For many Merrimac residents, Brian is remembered for his service to the community, as both fire chief as well as a longtime member of the Santa Parade Committee. To family and friends, Brian was the guy who could make you laugh without ever saying a word. But to us, he was all that and much more.

Brian W. Peavey, Sr. was a founding member of the re-stablished Merrimack Valley Concert Band way back in 1989 but his real start came in the fourth grade when his father purchased a secondhand tenor saxophone for him. That very same saxophone remained by his side throughout his entire life.

At age 16 Brian became a professional musician, playing for various dance bands and concert bands such as The Haverhill City Band, the West Newbury VFA Marching Band, and, of course, the Merrimack Valley Concert Band. He was also a very proud member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 302.

In addition to music, as many already know, Brian was very active in his community. He was a member of the Merrimac Fire Department for 38 years retiring as Chief in 2000. He was a special police officer for 45 years and he also served as a Light and Water Commissioner, a Constable and a long time member of the Merrimac Santa Parade Committee.

Brian would be thrilled to know he is helping young musicians get the education they need to be able to enjoy music as much as he did and we are very proud to offer this scholarship in his memory.
